Lakers Rumors: Kobe Bryant would approve to Lakers signing Gilbert Arenas

After another disappointing loss to a younger squad in the New York Knicks led by a talented point guard Jeremy Lin, the Los Angeles Lakers obviously need to make a move whether it is a trade (blockbuster or minor) or a free agent signing. The point guard position has been sorely lacking on the Lakers roster for quite some time and it has officially gotten to the point in which the team will be forced to make a change or expect to fail moving forward.

The best option at point guard in terms of a free agent signing right now is veteran Gilbert Arenas. The Lakers have been linked to plenty of point guards around the league via trade like Ramon Sessions (Cleveland Cavaliers), Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics) and most notably Deron Williams (New Jersey Nets), but no deal is imminent despite the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaching (March 15).

With that being the case and the Lakers continuing to struggle on the road (4-10 record), the team should take a chance by signing Gilbert Arenas. All the team will give up to acquire the veteran point guard is a pro-rated veteran’s minimum and a roster spot. If it doesn’t work out with Arenas, the Lakers can simply part ways with the 30-year-old and all they will lose is the cost of a pro-rated contract that will be up at season’s end.

Reportedly, Kobe Bryant is all-in on the idea of the Lakers signing Gilbert Arenas according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com:

“Bryant reached out to Arenas recently through an intermediary to let him know he's on board with Arenas joining the Lakers.”

This starts to make things interesting as usually when Kobe Bryant begins to speak or voice his opinion the Lakers make moves. A similar situation took place back in 2009 when Kobe reached out to Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) in attempt to recruit him to Los Angeles.
