Over the past month or so, the one name that has been talked about more than any other in Los Angeles in terms of signing with the Lakers is free agent point guard Gilbert Arenas. Even though Arenas played pretty poorly to his standards in 70 games for the Washington Wizards and the Orlando Magic last season, there is a chance that this once dominant scorer could be back to form after considerable time off and supposedly having the same knee procedure Kobe Bryant underwent in Germany during the offseason.
Obviously, not many teams around the league have been convinced that Gilbert Arenas has turned the corner or is worth the gamble as he is still unsigned after almost 30 games played by the majority of the teams in the NBA. Despite that being the case, Arenas has scheduled an open workout in Los Angeles later this week for all 30 teams in the league that might have some interest in the veteran point guard to come and take a look at him.
With the Los Angeles Lakers being linked to Gilbert Arenas for quite some time, the consensus has been that there would be no harm in checking out what he might have to offer in this workout. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has mentioned some interest in taking a look at Arenas and could very well attend this workout.
At 30-years-old, Arenas may still have something left in the tank and might be a steal for the Lakers if he is back to form and willing to take a pro-rated veteran’s minimum.
