With about 20 games left to go in the 2013-14 NBA season, the attention will begin to turn to the off-season for the Los Angeles Lakers. One of the major concerns will be filling out the roster and bringing back the right players on the current roster in order to do so. Apparently, Wesley Johnson wants to be one of those players according to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News on March 4:
“I want to come back,” Johnson told this newspaper. “Hopefully they feel the same way. I’ll have to continue to prove myself and show I can play hard.”
Johnson was one of the many players the Lakers brought in last summer to help fill out the roster following a disappointing season. Although Johnson wasn't considered to be a game-changer for the storied franchise, the veteran forward has played well in the second half of the season and seems to be a good fit in Mike D'Antoni's system.
The former lottery pick has played multiple positions this season while trying to find his place under D'Antoni. Despite the playing out of position for most of the year, Johnson has started to see some success at the power forward position.
With so much turnover expected this summer, Johnson might be one of the few that returns. It remains to be seen if Johnson will return on another one-year deal or has proven his worth to the team in order to merit a long-term deal.
