The Los Angeles Lakers will be without four-time All-Star Pau Gasol for a little longer than expected. Gasol was expected to miss the team's current three-game road trip and now will miss at least six games according to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News on Feb. 4:
Lakers haven't set date when they'll reevaluate Gasol, but he's missing at least next 6 games.
The timing for Gasol's injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the Lakers. The Lakers are currently trying to trade the two-time NBA champion to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for the expiring contract of Emeka Okafor and potentially a high draft pick.
With Gasol set to miss another six games and the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 20, Gasol might only play one more game in a Lakers uniform before being shipped out. The Suns aren't willing to pull the trigger on a deal to acquire Gasol until they see how he bounces back from the groin injury and may only have a short window to do so.
Despite Gasol missing the next two weeks with the groin injury, the Lakers will continue to gauge trade interest around the league for the veteran center with the Suns possibly being their best suitor for a deal before the deadline.
In the meantime, the Lakers will have Jordan Hill, Robert Sacre and Chris Kaman shoulder the load in the frontcourt.
