Following the loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tues. Nov. 10, Pau Gasol spoke to the media in the locker room about Kobe Bryant return and recovery from the Achilles injury. Gasol knows that it's only been two games Bryant's played in his return to the floor for the Los Angeles Lakers saying the following about his teammate's recovery:
"I think it's a work in progress. We have to stay on it and make sure we continue to make things happen for ourselves and for our teammates."
In Bryant's second game back after an eight-month absence, the five-time NBA champion scored a team-high 20 points and played much better in comparison to his season debut. Although Bryant still showed signs of rust with some ill-advised passes, the perennial All-Star is quickly getting back to form as an offensive threat.
Eight of Bryant's 20 points came from the line on Tuesday night at the Staples Center with the superstar slowly but surely becoming more aggressive. Bryant has definitely approached his return to the floor with a more pass-first mentality, but it seems like it'll be only a matter of time before the dominant scorer of old comes back to the surface.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, the team chemistry has taken a hit with Bryant coming back into the mix. A few of the first-year players on the roster clearly feel out of place after practicing and playing 19 regular season games before Bryant returned.
Despite the rust and chemistry still developing, the Lakers may still be able to become a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference this season.
