Lakers News: Magic Johnson offers to recruit free agents to the Lakers

No one has been more critical about the Los Angeles Lakers over the last two years than Magic Johnson. Despite the criticism, Magic has vowed to stop bashing his former team and now will help recruit free agents to the Lakers if Mitch Kupchak and company want his help according to Jill Painter of the L.A. Daily News on Feb. 5:

"I told Mitch the other day if you want me to recruit this summer..People dont know that was my role with Dr. Buss for while."

Magic went on to say that he helped in the process of bringing Ron Artest to Los Angeles and keeping Lamar Odom with the Lakers via Painter:

"I was the first to call Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, all these guys, that was my job, calling them and recruiting them.''

With the Lakers clearly on the path of having a high draft pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the team is starting to look toward the summer and upgrades that can be made in the draft and in free agency.

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony could all become free agents this summer. Anthony appears to be the most likely of this group to opt-out of his deal and available to the highest bidder, but there's still a lot of time left before free agency in July and anything can happen.

Along with the perennial All-Stars mentioned above, the Lakers may also go after the one or more of the following unrestricted free agents including Luol Deng, Kyle Lowry and Lance Stephenson.
