After playing perhaps his last game at the Staples Center against the Los Angeles Lakers, five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher of the Oklahoma City Thunder reflected on his time with the Lakers and playing with longtime teammate Kobe Bryant. Fisher was asked about Kobe and where he ranks in terms of his favorite teammates saying the following according to Lakers Nation's Serena Winters on March 9:
“Kobe, by far is my favorite teammate from a basketball perspective, in terms of what we were able to accomplish,” Fisher told LakersNation.com. “It would be a disservice to guys like Devean George, Luke Walton, Horace Grant, guys that I really got close to over the years in terms of being friends to automatically put Kobe at the top of that list. We definitely shared some special years and I miss him everyday, and I just want him to get healthy and get back on the court as soon as possible.”
Fisher and Bryant were both acquired by the Lakers back in the 1996 NBA Draft. The veteran point guard was taken late in the first round with the 26th pick while Kobe was acquired via trade with the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Vlade Divac. Kobe was originally drafted by the Hornets with the 13th overall pick before being traded to the Lakers.
The combination of Kobe and Fisher won five titles while playing alongside each other in Los Angeles and became close in the process. Although both players wanted to win a sixth title together before they retired, Fisher was traded to the Houston Rockets back in 2012 for Jordan Hill and will finish his career with the Thunder.
