The road continues to be a rough place for the Los Angeles Lakers as Kobe Bryant and company have now lost nine out of 12 games away from the Staples Center after falling to the up-and-coming Philadelphia 76ers, 95-90. Even though the Lakers still haven’t been able to figure out their problems on the road, Kobe Bryant made history on Monday night by passing former teammate Shaquille O’Neal (28,556 points) for fifth on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list with 28,601 career points.
In the first half of this showdown in Kobe’s hometown, the Sixers had no answer for the Black Mamba as he lit up the scoreboard by passing Shaq in the scoring department before halftime with 24 of his 28 points. Unfortunately, it was the Sixers’ Lou Williams that stole the show and the spotlight from Kobe Bryant in the second half with 14 points (24 total) in the fourth quarter that put Philadelphia over the top.
Along with Kobe Bryant’s historic night, up-and-coming center Andrew Bynum had one of his best games of the season with 20 points, 20 rebounds and three blocks. Bynum played a big part in the Lakers dominance on the glass against the Sixers with Los Angeles outrebounding Philly 55 to 30, but it just wasn’t enough to keep the edge over Doug Collins’ squad as the 76ers came-from-behind and got a big win over the Lakers.
Now the Los Angeles Lakers will continue their extended road trip as they will travel to Beantown to take on the arch rival Boston Celtics on Thursday night followed by the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden a day later.
