Lakeland's streets were flooded with talent during 2nd Chalk for Charity -Photos (Photos)

The number of artists participating in the 2nd Annual Chalk for Charity fundraiser grew significantly over the same event in 2012. Last year the participants covered two blocks of downtown Lakeland. The 2013 Chalk for Charity event covered about four blocks.

Every genre' of art imaginable was represented. There was abstract, Japanese anime, portraits, realism, and everything in between. The ages of the artists varied greatly as well. Several Lakeland and Polk County business organizations sponsored artists in order to support the Lakeland Knights of Columbus Global Wheelchair Mission and The Lakeland Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association.

Two types of prizes were up for grabs. There were the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place People's Choice Prizes and one Professional Judges' Prize. Tokens could be purchased and used to cast votes for each artist. The token count was used to determine the People's Choice Prize winners. A group of anonymous judges selected the Professional Judges' Prize winner.

The judges had an overwhelming task. There were not enough prizes to go around for the number of artists that were deserving of a prize. The prize winners and some of the most striking chalk drawings can be viewed in the slide show accompanying this article.
