Lakeland's late rally sinks T-Yanks 8-3

The Tampa Yankees were back at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Saturday evening to take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the third game of the Opening series of the season. Righty Shane Greene (ERA 1.80) took the start for the Yanks.

The T-Yanks took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2st after a single by Ben Gamel. Gamel hit a RBI double in the bottom of the 3rd to help Tampa tack on another. The 20 year old Gamel has had a stellar showing in his first three games with Tampa, racking up 5 RBIs and 3 doubles.

Greene would end up pitching a solid 5 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run and striking out an impressive 8 batters.

However, things would get a little tense in the 8th inning. Joel De La Cruz relieved Greene and was solid for nearly three innings. De La Cruz would ne dup being responsible for the Tigers tying the game at 3. Tampa newcomer Zach Arneson, however didn’t have the best Yankee debut. In just 2/3 of an inning he allowed 3 hits, 5 runs-4 earned. The Flying Tigers then took a commanding 8-3 lead that was too much for Tampa to overcome.

Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez each had 2 hits on the night, Ben Gamel and Eduardo Sosa each had 3 hits on the night.

De La Cruz earned the hold (H,1) and Arneson was charged with the blown save (BS,1) and the loss (0-1). The Tampa Yankees are now 2-1 on the 2013 season.

The Tampa Yankees will have one more matchup against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm at Joker Merchant Stadium.

With a win, the Yanks will win this first series of the 2013 season.
