Snow arrived last night in Lake Tahoe. But don’t expect a lot of accumulation – it’s a warm storm.
Several Lake Tahoe ski resorts received snow on Tuesday night and early this morning. But the totals thus far are modest. Alpine Meadows ski resort received 4 inches of new snow, while in the South Lake Tahoe area, Sierra-at-Tahoe got 3 inches.
The snow will continue today, but due to the temperatures in the mid-40s or higher, it will be raining at levels 6,500 feet or lower. According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulation will be up to 3 inches today.
There was 2 inches of fresh snow at Squaw Valley this morning, where the resort will be hosting U.S. Alpine Championship today through Sunday.
A strong field of skiers will include Ted Ligety and Mikaela Shiffrin. Squaw Valley will be well-represented with Olympians Julia Mancuso and Marco Sullivan, and youthful Travis Ganong.
The weather should be clear and sunny this weekend with temperatures rising into the low 40s today and likely climbing into the low 50s by Thursday.
Below is the National Weather Service forecast for today through Thursday for the greater Lake Tahoe region.
