Lake Tahoe ski report: Storm brings up to 2 feet of new snow at Tahoe resorts (Photos)

Today is definitely a powder day for skiing and snowboarding at most Lake Tahoe ski resorts, which benefitted from this week’s storm that dumped on the region.

Like any storm, some ski resorts in the Tahoe region got more snow than others. One of the big winners on Wednesday was Kirkwood Mountain Resort, which was reporting 15-17 inches of new snow this morning.

Northstar California also got hit hard on Wednesday with totals reaching 14 inches. Squaw Valley got up to 10 inches of snow, while on Tahoe’s south shore Heavenly received 7 inches.

According to the Weather Channel, there is a 70-percent chance of snow today, although the snow totals are not expected to be high. There is a 10-percent chance of snow on Friday.

The weather should be clear and sunny this weekend with temperatures rising into the high 40s or low 50s by Sunday.

The much-needed storm is providing a good start to March after two months of very dry weather in the Lake Tahoe region and throughout Northern California.

Below is the National Weather Service forecast for today through Saturday for the greater Lake Tahoe region.

Today: Snow showers in the morning...then scattered snow showers in the afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches. Highs 29 to 34. Light winds.
