Get in one final day of skiing or riding the groomers at Lake Tahoe ski resorts, then prepare for a couple days of powder.
The snow is coming and according to most weather outlets, the amounts could be sizable. At some Lake Tahoe ski resorts the storm totals may reach or exceed 2 feet of snow by Friday morning. Several Tahoe resorts reported modest ski totals on Monday.
The snow is expected to begin tonight and the heaviest snow will likely fall in the early morning hours Wednesday. By late evening the snow totals could be 8-12 inches with more on the way throughout Thursday.
Temperatures dipping
Daytime temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday are expected to range from 29-38 degrees and evening temperatures will be in the teens.
According to the Weather Channel, it’s setting up to be a mostly dry weekend. There is a 30-percent chance of snow Friday, followed by 10 percent Saturday and zero percent Sunday.
The much-needed storm would provide a good start to March after two months of very dry weather in the Lake Tahoe region and throughout Northern California.
Record-low snow totals January, February
It was a dismal January and February. Last week, the California’s cooperative snow survey measured 29 inches of snow with a water content of 13.4 inches. The good news: The poor numbers are twice as much as what was on the ground at this time last year.
This is the third driest January and February in the Sacramento region in 150 years, and the driest in California since 1920, when the record-keeping began.
