Good news comes tonight when the temperatures will be dropping and snow flurries are expected to hit the Lake Tahoe region.
However, the last few days have been a mix of good and bad news.
The positive is a much-needed storm is expected to arrive on Tuesday (March 5) evening at many Lake Tahoe ski resorts. According to the National Weather Service, the storm could dump more than 2 feet of snow at higher elevations.
That would provide a good start to March after two months of very dry weather in the Lake Tahoe region and throughout Northern California.
It’s been a dismal January and February. Earlier this week, the California’s cooperative snow survey measured 29 inches of snow with a water content of 13.4 inches. The good news: The poor numbers are twice as much as what was on the ground at this time last year.
This is the third driest January and February in the Sacramento region in 150 years, and the driest in California since 1920, when the record-keeping began.
It’s expected to be warm again today at Tahoe ski resorts with temperatures getting into the high 40s and low 50s. The daytime temperatures on Sunday should drop 10 degrees or more.
Below is the National Weather Service forecast for today through Tuesday for the greater Lake Tahoe region.
