While the East Coast is digging out from a huge nor’easter storm, in the Lake Tahoe region the snow that was expected Friday never arrived.
Only a few of Lake Tahoe’s ski resorts reported any measurable snow on Friday. Northstar California was one of the lucky resorts, getting 3 inches of new snow and 6 inches overall from the mild storm that arrived Thursday and concluded on Friday morning.
While there are no snow storms on the horizon, the good news for Tahoe skiers and snowboarders is the weather should be relatively cold, preserving the modest new snow totals. That means some nice smooth, soft corduroy runs this weekend in sunny, “bluebird” weather.
Daytime temperatures for the weekend are expected to be in the low-to-mid 30s and the evening temperatures will dip into the teens.
Looking for something unusual on the slopes this weekend? The picturesque Village at Northstar will transform into a garden of snow sculptures starting today and running until Tuesday (Feb. 12) when the Lake Tahoe ski resort hosts Carve Tahoe, the region's first-ever international snow carving competition.

For a more action-oriented event, check out the Daron Rahlves’ Banzai Tour at Alpine Meadows. The Banzai Tour showcases racing in its purest form of four at a time going head-to-head over natural terrain in ski and boarder-cross style action. The event takes place both today and Sunday.
