This was no mere dusting of snow. A real storm finally hit Northern California and brought much-needed fresh snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts for skiing and snowboarding.
The precipitation and low temperatures combined to produce some fluffy snow that will be ideal for a powder day.
Hit the hardest on Tuesday were the ski resorts off Interstate 80. Sugar Bowl ski resort was the big winner, reporting 10-12 inches of new snow. Nearby Soda Springs ski resort and Boreal Mountain Resort both reported 10 inches.
“We’re powder skiing again, everyone is pretty psyched about that,” said John Monson, Sugar Bowl spokesperson.
Located off Highway 88, Kirkwood Mountain Resort reported 6-8 inches of snow from the storm. Getting 5 inches of new snow were Heavenly Mountain Resort, Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, Northstar California and Squaw Valley.
And the good news is the snow could return on Saturday when there is a 50-percent chance of snow, according to the Weather Channel.
The snow is expected to subside this morning, but the temperatures will remain chilly. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures today are expected to be in the high-20s to mid-30s and dropping into single digits at night.
Temperatures will likely stay in that range until warming up by the weekend into the low 40s during the day.
