Some of the best girl high school golfers in Florida gathered Saturday at the Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes for the 3rd Annual Central Florida Tournament of Champions.
And when the final putt was holed, Lake Mary Prep stood above all others, capturing the team title with a score of 292.
Seven teams competed in the 18-hole tournament, hosted by Lake Mary High School. It was sponsored by Florida Women’s Center.
Five of the seven teams finished in the top five in the state in their respective classes a year ago. And based on the quality of the play on Saturday, most of them will again be contending.
Lake Mary Prep’s Claire Hodges led her team to victory while taking individual medalist honors. She shot a pair of 34s over the challenging Tom Fazio layout at Alaqua Lakes for a four-under-par 68.
Other scores for the champion Griffins were Sierra Brooks, 36-37—73; Amy Zhang, 37-40--77; Bree Fausnaugh, 39-38—77 and Anne Yu, 40-38—78.
Second place among the teams was American Heritage School of Plantation with a score of 297. Team leader was Andreina Marchan who shot 69 to tie for second individually.
Circle Christian School of Winter Park took third at 299, led by Samantha Wagner (69) and Abbey Carlson (72).
Rounding out the scoring was Lake Highland Prep (316; Ashley Mangan, 74); Ponte Vedra High School (324; Nicolette Donovan, 69); Lake Mary High School (332, Jordan Wolf, 72); Olympia High School (359, Madison Lellyo, 73).
