The ice car races scheduled for this weekend at the Lake George Winter Carnival have been cancelled. A representative from the Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club (AMEC), which sanctions the races, measured the ice thickness this morning, Feb. 21, as 11 inches, not thick enough to safely race. Last weekend, scheduled motorcycle and ATV races were also cancelled for inadequate ice thickness.
The Winter Carnival Committee is planning an ATV poker run/scavenger hunt with seven stops throughout the Village this Saturday, Feb. 23. Registration will be at Duffy’s Tavern, 9 a.m. — 11 a.m. Participants must have a registered and insured ATV. Maps will be supplied at registration. Call Linda at 361-2559 for more information.
This final weekend of the Lake George Winter Carnival will include a chicken wing cook-off in Shepard Park at noon on Saturday, a bonfire on the beach Saturday evening at 4 p.m. and fireworks over the lake Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
Children’s activities and Zumba will be held at King Neptune’s between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Helicopter rides and tethered hot air balloon rides are also available all weekend. Visit the Lake George Winter Carnival website for a full schedule of events.
