The Lake Erie Grape Discovery Center in Westfield is open for business.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday at the Chautauqua County facility, presided over by Center President Helen Baran and State Senator Cathy Young, who was instrumental in obtaining financing to support the project.
The Discovery Center focuses on the Lake Erie region that represents about two-thirds of all grapes grown in New York State. Its vision statement says: "The Grape Discovery Center seeks to be an experience destination that supports and promotes the grape industry through sharing stories, engaging, educating and informing the public about all things grape."
The Center will be open seven days a week, with exhibits and displays describing more than 150 years of grape-growing in the Lake Erie Concord Grape region, the oldest and largest Concord grape region in the world, and the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies.
Visitors will have the opportunity to taste 100% pure Concord grape juice, other grape products, and a selection of wines from Lake Erie Wine Country.
The Center is located at 8305 West Main Road (Route 20). Phone: (716) 326-2003.
