Lake effect snow and brutal cold for West Michigan

See also

The powerful disturbance that brought heavy snow to West Michigan over the weekend has moved toward the East Coast. A blast of arctic air will pour into the Great Lakes today. Air temperatures will fall all day today, down to near or below zero by this evening. A strong wind from the west will create bands of heavy lake effect snow. The strong wind will also produce some blowing and drifting of the snow and near blizzard conditions at times, especially near the lakeshore and in the open areas. Visibilities will be reduce to near zero at times making driving very difficult and even hazardous. The Grand Rapids National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for the counties along and near near the Lake Michigan shoreline until 8 AM Tuesday. Total additional snowfall accumulations of 2-8 inches are possible in the warning area by Tuesday morning.
