This year, as in the past, the run is being held in memory of Gránia Maggio who was former member of the Jersey Shore Running Club, and a former Lake Como resident.

According to her sister Liz Maggio who is also the event organizer, “Gránia was an energetic runner who was fatally hit by a car at a Dave Matthews concert in Saratoga N.Y. in 2005. “

According to Liz, it was during her college career that Gránia became interested in running. After college she completed an internship at Trinity College in Dublin Ireland. She returned to compete in the Dublin Marathon two times. She was planning to run in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. prior to her tragic death.

A portion of the race proceeds will go to the Gránia Maggio Study Abroad Endowment at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. This study abroad program encourages students to travel and study in a variety of places including Italy, England, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica.
