Lahaina beach Cleanup Sunday April 11th

Maui sailing charter Trilogy Excursions, in conjunction with the Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter, has launched the Blue 'aina Campaign for 2010, and is organizing and hosting monthly reef cleanups. The next Blue'aina Campaign cleanup is being held on Sunday, April 11th from 9AM to 12PM. The goal of the groups is to clean up twelve local surf spots, simultaneously acting to raise awareness about protecting surf areas. The underlying theme of the effort and the Surfrider partnership is that it is up to surfers as stewards of the ocean to help protect and take care of the places that bring so much joy.

Organizer Jill Q is asking participants to meet at 8:30 AM at Lahaina Harbor and bring snorkel gear. Participants who can't commit to the half day on a boat, who aren't comfortable free diving or who would prefer to help out at the beach should meet at the Ukumehame Beach park in front of 1,000 Peaks surf break.

To get to the beach park head south from Lahaina, look for Ukumehame Park. Park in the area about half a mile from the tunnel.

Blue`aina Campaign in conjunction with Surfrider and Reef Check will be holding another beach cleanup at Lahaina Harbor on Saturday, May 1st. Click here for more information about this and other events.
