Lago Mar Resort Stands Apart in Ft. Lauderdale

See also

Lago Mar Resort stands apart from every other hotel on Ft. Lauderdale’s beautiful stretch of beach – it is a true resort with lovely tropical landscaped grounds, a private expansive beach, and engaging on-site activities. In a line of gleaming skyscrapers bordered by concrete and separated from the beach by a freeway, Lago Mar is beautifully unique.

ARRIVAL

After parking near the waterway (nice and close to the lobby), we were ushered into the lobby and checked in with no wait time at all. I was immediately drawn to the incredible mosaic floor in the lobby. The underwater marine life scene was beautifully crafted in bold colors. The lobby’s fireplace made of coral was also eye-catching. The hotel does a wonderful job of creating an upscale beach feel that makes a great first impression. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

LOCATION

My husband and I chose Lago Mar for our anniversary trip because of its grounds and they did not disappoint. We’ve stayed at many hotels along this stretch of beach in Ft. Lauderdale and not one has the outdoor space like Lago Mar. When the bellman was escorting us to our room, he called the resort a “hidden gem.” This phrase, often overused or misused, fits this resort. The hotel is composed of three main buildings, forming a U shape, facing the ocean. Inside of this U are two pools (one with an island in the middle), two tennis courts, shuffleboard, a putting course, a playground, hammocks, and a life-sized chess board. All of this is surrounded by a lush landscape of flowers, shrubs and palm trees. The hammocks satisfied my husband’s hotel requirement for an awesome place to lounge. Hammocks are surprisingly hard to find in Ft. Lauderdale. The hotel also has a spa, which I regret I didn’t have enough time to try.

PRIVATE BEACH

The beach is the hotel’s greatest asset. It is wide, long and manicured. Basic beach chairs are free for guests to use and shelters, upgraded chairs and umbrellas are available to rent. On our last day, my sister, her husband and their three children joined us for a day of play. We swam in both pools, played the mini golf course and exhausted ourselves in the waves. I can say with certainty that Lago Mar is a hit with children.

ROOMS

We tried out two room types during our week-long stay, a one-bedroom ocean-view suite and a two-bedroom pool-view suite. Both had a mini kitchen with coffee maker, small refrigerator, table and microwave. For travelers like us who don’t care to go out for every single meal, the arrangement is perfect. These rooms have silverware and plates as well – very convenient. The one-bedroom suite was spacious, the five-piece bathroom had a large new shower, and the balcony was perfect for relaxing. The two-bedroom had an even better living room that was especially conducive to working and watching on-demand movies. The Internet connection was good.

DINING

On our anniversary, we ate in the on-site restaurant, Acquario. The food was tasty and the service, excellent. My favorite dish was the Caesar salad. The hotel also has a Soda Shop, which we took our family to for lunch on our last day. The food was good and the atmosphere even better as the café is in the style of an old-fashioned soda counter. While playing at the pool, we all had a virgin Pina Colada. Although a bit pricey, it was worth every cent – delicious!

MY RECOMMENDATION

Lago Mar is my new favorite resort in Ft. Lauderdale. That says it all.
