Lady swimmers look at life in coastal theater show

The Dixie Swim Club runs on the Coastal Repertory stage in Half Moon Bay through April 26.

The story spans 33 years in the lives of five women who began their friend on their college swim team.

Every August the ladies set aside a long weekend to recharge their relationships on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Free from husbands, kids and jobs they meet at the same beach house to catch-up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives.

Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her perfect life, and continues to be the group's leader. There’s Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever with a dynamo career, which is a start contrast to the frustrations in her personal life. Pampered Lexie is a serial monogamist who is determined to hold on to her looks and youth as long as possible. The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos. And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood that takes them all by surprise.

As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges of men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce and aging that life flings at them. When fate throws a wrench into one of their lives, these friends, proving the enduring power of teamwork, rally with the strength and love.

The Dixie Swim Club is directed by Paul Anable and features Roxane Ashe as Dinah, Patti Appel as Lexie, Julie Kline as Sheree, Mary Waterfield as Jeri Neil and Gina Gustino as Vernadette.

Show times 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees. Tickets are $17 to $35. The Coastal Repertory Theatre is located at 1167 Main Street, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019.
