The Lady RedHawks soccer team made easy work of the Akron Zips in the first round of the MAC tournament, picking up a 2-0 victory and advancing to the semifinals. The 'Hawks will next face the Central Michigan Chippewas on Friday in Toledo. It will be another rematch bout for the 'Hawks after they lost 2-0 to CMU October 1.
The Chippewas downed Northern Illinois 2-1. In the other quarterfinal matches, Toledo defeated Ohio 1-0 and Western Michigan beat Eastern Michigan 4-2 on penalty kicks after a scoreless tie.
Sarah Dessfelt drew first blood, scoring her fifth goal of the season at the 29th minute. The second goal came at the 59th minute in the second half, when Sara Lund scored her third of the season. The 'Hawks controlled both sides of the ball, outshooting the Zips 18-9. Goalkeeper Madison Ryan (3-1-1) turned away all four shots that came into her neighborhood.
The 'Hawks are playing their best ball of the year right now. They will need to keep up their best as they move forward in the tournament.
