Lady Gaga released a cracked grandiose statement today (1/5/2014) via her fan website LittleMonsters.com. The "Do What U Want" singer has had a tough time of it lately pleasing journalists and keeping her fans a.k.a. "Little Monsters" happy. The "Artpop" Kool-Aid just hasn't been a good concoction and many music lovers are refusing to drink it.
It has been widely reported by many respectable news outlets that Interscope has lost upwards of $25 million dollars on the Gaga "Artpop" project already and does not intend to lose anymore before they start recouping. Even with sluggish ARTPOP BALL ticket sales, it appears Interscope has blocked the release of the "Do What U Want" music video featuring R. Kelly to stave off further bleeding. It has been reported by Perez Hilton that Interscope feels the video is "too smutty" for mainstream consumption. Remember that Lady Gaga fully endorsed R. Kelly at the beginning.
This isn't the first time R. Kelly has had problems with other recording artists. Jay Z was once collaborating with Kelly several years ago. Their project's demise was related to the allegations that Kelly was involved inappropriately with an underage girl. Jay Z wasted no time removing himself from their project, which when released, had dismal sales.
Gaga is trying to do her own damage control now. To combat the R. Kelly fiasco, she and Interscope enlisted Christina Aguilera to replace his vocal on "Do What U Want" and re-shoot an entirely new music video costing the label millions of dollars. Everyone was hoping that the ARTPOP BALL ticket sales would pick up from the new diva duet release. However, sales have plummeted for the "Do What U Want" single.
The current state of her ARTPOP campaign, seems to be a tough pill for Lady Gaga to swallow, as she suffers regrouping pains after parting ways with her former manager Troy Carter. Carter is the man who helped launch her into the stratosphere with the help of superstar creative director Laurieann Gibson. Together, their creative genius connected Gaga to the clubs, the gay community and eventually to all things commercial worldwide. From Gaga's rant, it seems she does not see her part in their split or her flopping--at all. She simply blames her former management for all of her current career misfortune and her precious "ARTPOP" problems, which is now shamefully referred to as "ARTFLOP" by many in the industry, except Billboard Magazine.
Lady Gaga posted the following shocking statement today on LittleMonsters.com:
It (Do What You Want Video) is late because, just like with the Applause video unfortunately, I was given a week to plan and execute it. It is very devastating for someone like me, I devote every moment of my life to creating fantasies for you. All my my most successful videos were planned over a period of time when I was rested and my creativity was honored. Those who have betrayed me gravely mismanaged my time and health and left me on my own to damage control any problems that ensued as a result. Millions of dollars are not enough for some people. They want billions. Then they need trillions. I was not enough for some people. They wanted more. I am very grateful to the photographers and designers who have always stood by me to make sure my fans are never aware of the things that happen behind the scenes, but unfortunately after my surgery I was too sick, too tired, and too sad to control the damage on my own. My label was not aware that this was going on. The next few months of ARTPOP will truly be its beginning. Because those who did not care about ARTPOP's success are now gone, and the dreams I have been planning can now come to fruition. Please forgive me that I did not foresee this coming, I never thought after all the years of hard work that those I called friends and partners would ever care so little at a time I needed them the most. Give me a chance to show you the meaning of seeing art all around you. Open your hearts to me again that I may show you the joy of us coming together through our talents, that we are stronger as a unit than when we are alone. Let me be for you the Goddess that I know I truly am, let me show you the visions that have been in my mind for two years. I love you. Forgive me monsters. Forgive me ARTPOP. You are my whole world.
WOW! As you can see from the above passage, Lady Gaga has been drinking her own Kool-Aid and possibly mixed it with heavy amounts of Bacardi 151. She wants to start ARTPOP over with another $25 million? Crazy! I find this entire statement disturbing because she appears to be in great denial on some faraway fantasy island. While she claims innocence and naivete, she certainly comes off as severely unmanageable, predictable and desperate. Lady Gaga proved to be a very talented woman in the distant past. Even though some of her hooks on ARTPOP are very good, her approach is all over the map now and she obviously lacks good orderly direction. I appreciate that she wants to be the captain of her ship, but she should stick to writing and singing songs and doing what she is told to by those who know what they are doing. This is a certifiable case of "self-will run riot!"
Yes, I feel Gaga seems to be exhibiting delusions of grandeur by calling herself a "Goddess" with a capital "G." Isn't that blasphemy by the way? I think she needs to restrain from writing crazy rants, take the cotton out of her ears, and call Sir Elton John. Interscope has their hands full with this implosion. Run for cover everyone! This is not going to end well.
