Lady Gaga shocks crowd with appearance in wheelchair, is pelted with eggs

According to MSN, Lady Gaga made an appearance on the stage in Australia Wednesday which stunned fans when she appeared in a wheelchair, showing a surprising lack of sensitivity to people with disabilities.

She was later pelted with eggs as she left a later concert, it was unclear whether the wheelchair performance and egg pelting were connected, but her appearance in performing "You and I" while dressed in a mermaid costume and being wheeled across the stage has been greeted with a great deal of criticism in the disabled community.

In a conversation I had with a disability advocate in Dallas, the appearance of the performer in a wheelchair was described as having a stunning lack of empathy.  A spokeman for the Life Rolls on Foundation, has urged Gaga to attend a conference and learn more sensitivity about disability issues. Life Rolls On is a subsidiary of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
