This year's MTV Video Music Awards are guaranteed to open with a spectacle. A press release published today via TV by the Numbers reports that Lady Gaga will perform the opening act to the 2013 installment of MTV's big awards show.
The singer will perform a live debut of her latest song 'Applause', which was released over the weekend as the first single off her forthcoming album entitled ARTPOP.
"One of the most talked about and innovative artists of this generation," as the press release labels her, Lady Gaga has won 13 VMAs since 2009 and has certainly generated discussion with past performances and outfits worn at the ceremony. Remember the infamous meat dress? Yep, 2010 VMAs.
Though there is anticipation over this year's live performance and album, which is due out in November, some of the reception of 'Applause' has been less than positive so far. Inquisitr, as well as Examiner, both call the single a flop, pointing out that the track is currently sitting at #3 on the iTunes top song chart and is #9 on the Amazon MP3 best seller list.
This year's VMAs will take place this Sunday at 9pm ET at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.
