Lady Gaga’s ex-boyfriend is suing her for $35 million saying that he essentially created her persona. Lady Gaga’s ex-boyfriend, Rob Fusari claims that he helped to transform Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga) by helping to make her more commercialized. Lady Gaga won two Grammy awards in 2010 for her first album.
Lady Gaga has no comment about the lawsuit.
In 2006, Fusari met Germanotta at a recording studio and he said he knew she had star potential when she began to sing. According to court papers:
"Fusari then asked her to play one of her songs on the studio piano and within seconds, (he) realized that Germanotta had star potential. The trick would be coaxing it out of her."
Fusari thought her songs lacked commercial appeal.
"He pushed her to explore different musical genres," court papers read. "Over the course of the next several months, Germanotta commuted from New York to Jersey seven days a week, radically reshaping her approach. They put their focus on writing music and finding a sound for her."
According to Fusari he convinced her "to abandon rock riffs and add dance beats. He demonstrated how the sound of a drum machine would not hurt the integrity of her music."
Fusari even claims that he created the stage name Lady Gaga. He sent a text to Germanotta that was suppose to read "Radio Ga Ga," (after the song by Queen), but spell check changed it to "Lady Ga Ga," it said. "Germanotta loved it and 'Lady Gaga' was born.”
At one point, Germanotta signed a contract with Fusari giving him 20% of her career. They began to date and then because of constant arguing, he broke up with her and they had a professional relationship only. After she got a recording contract in 2007 she stopped talking to Fusari.
Fusari also co-wrote and produced four songs on her first album including "The Fame," and "Paparazzi," according to CNN.
