Word is out that the over-the-top pop singer Lady Gaga is set to hit the Xcel Energy Center stage in May, despite dismal record sales for Artpop, the singer’s third album. While it did reach the Billboard Top 100 after its November 11 release date, its sales were much lower than projected for Gaga, with a number of websites playfully referring to it as “ART-FLOP”.
Even still, Lady Gaga continues to produce hit songs. “Applause”, the first single off Artpop has been topping charts and playing on hit radio stations nationwide. The official second single is “Do What U Want” featuring R&B singer R. Kelly. You may have first heard this song on Best Buy’s “Beats by Dre” commercials. You also may have seen Lady Gaga perform it on Saturday Night Live on November 16, joined by her male counterpart, R. Kelly. The performance escaladed into something overtly sexual, with what appeared to be simulations of sex acts. This provocative performance along with the sexuality in song lyrics may be a contributing factor in the lack of enthusiasm for Artpop. In order for her to stay on top, she needs to keep pushing the limits. The singer has certainly kept her shock factor alive, but the suggestive lyrics add controversy.
Her May 20th show in St. Paul should be a rousing good time. Even with less stellar record sales this time around, Lady Gaga is sure to impress her fans, which she affectionately calls “Little Monsters”. Buy tickets now at www.lady-gaga.tickets-center.com/
