On Tuesday morning, Lady Gaga released the cover work for her album ARTPOP, which has been called a flop even before its release. In the picture is a statue of Lady Gaga grabbing her breasts, pretending to be an actual artist. The Twittersphere has reacted very negatively.
It hasn't been a good year for pop's former "it" girl. In January, she cancelled her tour due to a hip injury that many critics say was completely fake. It appears that Mother Monster was playing to less than full houses each night and had to cancel to offset the financial losses. But things got worse.
In August, Mother Monster tried to take away all attention from Katy Perry by releasing her song "Applause" early. Desperate to top the charts, Lady Gaga tried to employ her fans into buying multiple copies of the song. Despite all the hype, alleged radio station payola, and Kia commercial placement, Applause only peaked at number four and is steadily dropping down the charts.
For the past month, Lady Gaga has been desperately re-recording ARTPOP as Interscope executives fear a huge-sized flop. Judging from everything going on in Gaga's drug-induced world, the fears are legit. We can only hope she survives and becomes a better person.
