Joining names like Betty White, Sofia Vergara and Idris Elba, Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake have been nominated for 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards. Nominations were announced early Thursday, along with the exact date for this year's celebration of television and the arts.
Lady Gaga's nominations, following the chart-topping album "Born This Way," stem from the HBO Special "Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden". Scoring five nominations Wednesday, the special is up for "Outstanding Directing For A Variety, Music or Comedy Special"; "Outstanding Picture Editing For A Special (Single Or Multi-Camera)"; "Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Special," "Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety, Music, Or Comedy Special" and "Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special".
Aired in May, "Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden" showcased both the singer's performance at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York and behind the scenes, never before seen, footage of her life.
Justin Timberlake has also been nominated for his musical contributions to television. Earning two nominations for his work on Saturday Night Live (SNL) Thursday, Timberlake is up for "Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics - Saturday Night Live · Host: Justin Timberlake (Song Title: Justin Timberlake Monologue)" and "Saturday Night Live · Host: JustinTimberlake (Song Title: 3-Way (The Golden Rule))". Timberlake, who stars in the film "Friends With Benefits,' is also nominated for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (Saturday Night Live).
The 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 18 on FOX.
