Lady Gaga: I did drugs to make music, not just to get high

Lady Gaga (born Stefani Germanotta) has never overdosed on drugs, but confesses that drugs sometimes inspired her songwriting.

"Using drugs, I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired," Gaga, 24, tells Britain's Q magazine. "Some people find inspiration in dark places. I guess I'm one of them. What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn't just doing drugs [to get high]."

Recalling her drug-fueled songwriting sessions, Gaga says: "At the beginning I was doing performance art in handmade leather and leopard bikinis talking about oral sex and Andy Warhol and heavy metal. My mom was like, 'You've lost your mind.' I was doing drugs; I was really out of control. But I never got so far into it that I overdosed or anything."

'I STILL SOMETIMES DO DRUGS'

Lady Gaga, who previously admitted she suffers from chronic insomnia and racing thoughts, confesses she still does drugs a few times a year.

“I won’t lie; it’s occasional," says Gaga, who says she's "terrified of heroin” and has never used it. "I really can’t do [cocaine] anymore. I haven’t done it in probably six months.

"Once you open those doors [doing drugs] they're open forever. People who say they need [drugs] to be creative are full of s**t. I'm not some chick on the road getting high and f***ed up every night. I wake up, drink coffee and get on the phone to talk about the creative direction of the next video."

GAGA TO GET WAXED

Gaga, who confesses she has was bullied as a child for being "fat and ugly," says she starves herself to stay rock-star thin. But fat or skinny, she's always lonely.

“I’m perpetually lonely," she says. "I’m lonely when I’m in relationships. It’s my condition as an artist. I’m drawn to bad romances. And my song [Bad Romance] is about whether I go after those [sort of relationships] or if they find me.”

Meanwhile, Madame Tussauds has announced plans to immortalize Lady Gaga as a wax figure, where the New York rocker will be featured alongside the likes of Kim Kardashian, President Obama and Robert Pattinson.

I always knew Lady Gaga was "different." I just wish she didn't do drugs. It sets a bad example for her fans. I do, however, admire her creativity, but I just don't understand her music.
