Lady Gaga fails to submit 'The Edge of Glory' for 2012 Grammy consideration

Lady Gaga will not be nominated for Record of the Year at the 2012 Grammy Awards for either "Born This Way" or "The Edge of Glory," because her record label shockingly chose not to submit either song for the category.

That's the big news to come out of the submission lists that were leaked online yesterday (and then immediately taken down.) The Grammys are in the first step of the nomination process, and that involves labels deciding which tracks and albums to submit for consideration.

Instead of submitting "Born" or "Edge" for Record of the Year, Gaga's label inexplicably submitted "Judas" and "You and I," two songs that were widely-panned and not nearly as big on radio.

Gaga could still sneak into the category, though, as she is also eligible for "The Lady is a Tramp," her duet with Tony Bennett, the veteran crooner who we feel has the best shot of knocking off Adele in the major categories.

Gaga also submitted "You and I" and "Judas" to the Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo fields. It makes no sense that she would ignore her two biggest hits of the year. But in any case, she's likely to score a few nominations, especially given that she's performing at the nomination announcement tv special on November 30 on CBS. "Born This Way" is a likely contender for Album of the Year, at least.

As for Adele, she submitted "Rolling in the Deep" to Record and Song of the Year, and "Someone Like You" to Best Pop Solo. It was a tough call between the two. While "Rolling" was the bigger hit, "Someone" is fresher and is a more beautiful all-around song. "Someone" might have been the better choice, but either way, Adele is going to be a big winner come Grammy time.

We have a copy of the full nominee submissions in 14 major categories and will be providing more information in the coming days.

The 2012 Grammy Awards date is February 12, 2012. Check out more of my Grammy Awards articles.
