The volunteerism and advocacy website DoSomething.org released their list of the "Top 20 Celebrities Gone Good" this weekend and Gaga scored the #1 spot ahead of Oprah Winfrey, Prince William, Leonardo DiCarprio and a smattering of other entertainment industry superstars. The selections were made based on celebrities' willingness to use their influence to advocate for positive societal changes as well as their fundraising projects.

Lady Gaga's core advocacy issue for 2010 was gay rights, specifically the repeal of America's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy requiring that any service member identified as gay or lesbian be expelled from the military.

Gaga proudly strutted down the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet escorted by four gay military veterans who were discharged because of their sexual orientation. The 24-year-old pop star also organized a last minute rally to pressure Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine to support a repeal of DADT. She repeatedly contacted Senators John McCain and Harry Reid on Twitter to lobby for nullification of DADT.
In addition to her advocacy, Lady Gaga raised big bucks for charity. Her most recent fundraising association had her teaming up with Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Usher for the Keep A Child Alive Foundation for children affected by AIDS.
