Duke 87, Winthrop 45
DURHAM – Tricia Liston had 20 points to lead Duke in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday, and she got plenty of help from her friends.
Freshman Oderah Chidom had a season-high 17 points while classmate Kendall McCravey-Cooper added season highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Blue Devils blasted Winthrop 87-45 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The 28-6 Blue Devils, seeded No. 2 in the Lincoln Regional, will host No. 7 seed DePaul (28-6) on Monday night at 6:30. DePaul held off Oklahoma 104-100 in what had to be one of the more entertaining games in tournament history.
Haley Peters chipped in 11 points and Elizabeth Williams 10 for Duke.
Winthrop (24-9), the No. 15 seed and champion of the Big South Conference, was in the tournament for the first time.
Dequesha McClanahan led the Eagles with 22 points while Samiya Wright added 12.
