On January 29, Lady Antebellum was nominated for the 2014 ACM Awards Vocal Group of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year. The announcement came via the Facebook and Twitter pages of the Academy of Country Music, where all the 2014 nominees were revealed by celebrities who agreed to be part of the Academy’s big day.
Lady Antebellum is a three-time winner of the Vocal Group of the Year Award and this year, is competing against Eli Young Band, Little Big Town, Zac Brown Band and The Band Perry. The band is also nominated for Vocal Event of the Year alongside Darius Rucker for their backup on “Wagon Wheel.”
After a brief hiatus while female lead, Hillary Scott, took maternity leave, the band is back out on the road promoting their fourth album “Golden.” The album lead off with a sassy single, “Downtown,” which became a Platinum-selling single for the trio. Their current single, “Compass,” remains in the top 20 of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart after 16 weeks.
While Little Big Town has had a strong presence over the last few years and Eli Young Band has been working their way up to a more prominent position in country music, Lady Antebellum has blessed with faithful fans who have continued to keep them in the forefront of the country genre for many years now.
Whether or not the slight detour around “Golden” will hurt Lady Antebellum’s chances in this year’s award shows remains to be seen, but fans can cheer them on when the 2014 ACM Awards air on CBS on April 6.
