Archangel Tactical holds its "Get a G.R.I.P. Ladies" series of Defensive Handgun Classes regularly on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings at Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range. The program consists of a lecture and discussion on Friday evening and range exercises on Saturday morning. The lecture and discussion portion is female taught and facilitated.
The lecture and discussion uses actual news events as a discussion starter. Situational awareness and behavior modification are topics of much of the discussion. The emotional aspects of defensive preparation and shooting are gone over in depth. Simple, low cost improvement to home and auto that increase personal protection are hot buttons for many of the ladies.
In the classroom, they also receive dryfire (no ammunition) training in marksmanship and gunhandling. Both revolvers and autoloading pistols are covered. Safe operation of handguns and proper marksmanship fundamentals are individually coached.
The handguns and ammunition for the range portion are furnished but students may bring and use their own, if they wish. On the range, the ladies are first taught to shoot single targets. They shoot with both revolvers and autoloaders on the single targets. After they are comfortable shooting single targets, they are given the opportunity to engage multiple targets in a defensive scenario with the handgun of their choice. Each lady shoots individually under the supervision of a Range Officer during the multiple target scenario.
Students range in age from 21 to 79. Their occupations include realtors, traveling sales professionals, single women, single and married mothers, widows, and grandmothers.
The next Get A Grip program will be Feb. 24-25. For a complete list of upcoming Archangel Tactical events, visit their website or contact Nikki Spencer
