Despite winning their third straight NFC North Division title, the Green Bay Packers had a forgettable season.

Bowing out in the first round of the playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers again was a bitter pill to swallow.

But there was one bright spot.

That would be the play of rookie running back Eddie Lacy.

You have to go back to 1971 and John Brockington to find a comparable season in franchise history.

Lacy missed a couple of games with an injured ankle but still managed to rack up 1,178 yard and 11 touchdowns.

As a result, the former back from Alabama has been collecting Rookie of the Year honors with the same alacrity.

The latest was bestowed upon Lacy on Saturday night during Super Bowl Weekend at Radio City Music Hall as voted by the Associated Press.

Lacy grabbed 35 of the 50 votes to literally run away with the top honor.

Injuries to key players at multiple positions, first and foremost to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, torpedoed the Pack's chances in 2013.

But the addition of a bona fide running game is enough to make Green Bay salivate for future success.

The thought of having a solid pass-oriented offense and a rushing offense to keep defenses off balance has head coach Mike McCarthy dreaming of going deeper into the second season.
