Lacuna Coil frontman discusses Broken Crown Halo

2014 has presented an interesting start for Italian metal veterans, Lacuna Coil. After completing the recording of its seventh studio album, “Broken Crown Halo” the band announced it would take part in the second Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock Tour with Sick Puppies, Eyes Set to Kill and Cilver. This was followed by the announcement that the band’s long time drummer Cristiano “Criz” Mozzati and guitarist Cristiano “Pizza” Migliore, were retiring. The band immediately had to prep for a new tour cycle without a third of its 16-year line-up. This gave new meaning to the release of the album’s first single, “Nothing Stands in Our Way”.

Remaining guitarist Marco “Maus” Biazzi immediately retooled his parts to perform the old and new material as the lone guitarist. Drummer Ryan Folden, who filled in last year when Mozzati returned home for family concerns, has returned to man the kit for the current tour. The sextet is currently forging on as a quintet, and as vocalists Andrea Ferro and Cristina Scabbia have both verbalized, it is much to soon to think about who and when permanent replacements will be considered.

On March 25, Lacuna Coil rolled in to Boise, Idaho as part of a short headlining tour with Kyng, Eve to Adam and Nothing More to fine tune the news songs and current line-up. The Examiner sat down with frontman, Andrea Ferro to discuss “Broken Crown Halo“, the retirement of his long time comrades, go karting, and living a balanced life. You can view the interview above.

“Broken Crown Halo” releases April 1 on Century Media Records.
