Most children as soon as they learn to talk have no problem in asking for what they want or need. They instinctively know that the best way to obtain something is to ask. They ask for presents for special occasions, candy, and especially needs when hungry or thirsty. Their goal in asking is to have their request granted. Parents, adults, or other children have the opportunity to respond with a yes or no.
God invites His children to ask Him for what they need or want. The needs include the spiritual and physical. He gives a special invitation to ask for wisdom. Wisdom is the learning of how to live right and have a mature Christian life. God’s wisdom is pure and brings peace. (James 3:17) Wisdom facilitates purity of heart motives and right actions. It produces peace in relationships with God and other people. God promises to generously give believers in Jesus Christ wisdom. He will always say, “Yes.”
The lack of wisdom or worldly wisdom produces the opposite of God’s intent. Relationships are harmed and spiritual growth is hindered. The sins of selfishness and envy cause a negative effect on peace. (James 3:16) They chip away at harmonious communication and unity. Peace is a fruit of living right before God and other people. It does not give people what they deserve in a wrongful situation, but it gives them love.
Challenge: Believers, ask God for wisdom and listen to the Holy Spirit to give guidance with right application. God’s wisdom in your actions and speech will facilitate peace.
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”(James 3:18)
