Labyrinth Network Northwest has announced Rev. Jill Kimberly Hartwell Geoffrion, Ph.D. as the featured speaker for the three-day 2011 Northwest Regional Labyrinth Gathering in the Portland, Oregon area, June 24-26, 2011. Dr. Geoffrion plans to speak on various subjects drawn from her work as an international labyrinth ambassador and published author of seven books, her many pilgrimages to Chartres Cathedral and extensive experience with labyrinths around the world.
“I have been to several labyrinth events in Portland and have always been happy with the diversity and quality of the events. I also appreciate all the wonderful people I’ve met. For this upcoming weekend event on June 24 – 26, 2011, there is truly something for everyone. I like the way this weekend is organized as it gives participants the freedom to attend those events of most interest to them.” – Adrienne Fermoyle, Seattle, WA
The gathering will take place in three different venues with three of the area’s best permanent labyrinths, and provides abundant opportunities to meet, renew friendships and network with dozens of labyrinth enthusiasts and professionals from the entire Pacific Northwest and beyond.
The Gathering begins Friday evening at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral (Portland, OR) with a program designed to interest everyone, regardless of their spiritual orientation. Dr. Geoffrion will take listeners to four continents with a photo-tour of her labyrinth prayer ministry.
“I am very excited about the Friday night event at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. This is a beautiful labyrinth in a beautiful environment and I always enjoy an opportunity to visit the cathedral. I also appreciate the focus of this evening event titled “Hope in the Midst of Suffering.” So many people in the world are in distress and it is a bit overwhelming to know how to best be of service. I look forward to connecting with like-minded people and focusing on hope.” – Adrienne Fermoyle, Seattle, WA
The Saturday events will be held at Mission of the Atonement (Beaverton, OR) where Dr. Geoffrion will delight participants with her deep and wide awareness of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth. Jill first visited the famous medieval labyrinth with Robert Ferré and has returned twenty-four times, strengthening her commitment with each visit. The afternoon includes an Appleton Dance and choice of workshop before Jill guides us to consider pilgrimage. During free time, visitors can explore the Marketplace seeking diverse treasures and enjoy others who share the labyrinth passion. A variety of labyrinths will available to walk, including a temporary labyrinth designed by Dan Niven of Seattle, WA and constructed by Myra Smith of The Laughing Flower Labyrinth Co. of Bellingham, WA.
On Sunday conference attendees will gather at St. Luke the Physician Episcopal Church (Gresham, OR) to focus specifically on the Christian community as Jill shares from her vast knowledge and insight of church labyrinth ministries. This is a rare chance to learn from a true expert in the field.
For more information, or to register for one or all three days of the conference, visit the Labyrinth Network Northwest website. Walk-in registration on the day of the event is also acceptable, though advance registration is preferred.
