Labor Readies For Its Day

The Pennsylvania General Assembly is still in recess, but Pennsylvania's workers were gearing up for Labor Day with a variety of appearances and events.

The weekend of the 23-24 brought more than 100 union leaders and activists to the annual COPE conference. A more in-depth report on this event will follow.

On the 25 and 26, State AFL-CIO President Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Snyder were in Pittsburgh, PA for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Third District Progress Meeting. At that meeting the IBEW endorsed Tom Wolfe for Governor.

On the 26 and 27, the AFL-CIO 'Rally Vehicle' was at the Philadelphia International Airport to support efforts of American Airlines and USAir in their efforts to organize.

The evening of August 27 had Bloomingdale and Synder at a corn roast in York sponsored by the York-Adams Central Labor Council. While there, they also recorded a program for Pennsylvania Cable News on "Labor in Our Communities".

Thursday, the 28, had Bloomingdale and Snyder in Harrisburg for a "Labor in The Pulpit" convocation.
