The semi-official end of summer is peering at us over the horizon. This Friday for many starts the Labor Day weekend and what many people call the end of summer. Perhaps this year some of us can squeeze just a bit more summer in before the leaves start to turn and the wind becomes chilly as the sun goes down. There’s never enough time. We all know that!
Of course there’s always some good news. This Thursday (Friday at the latest) tandem riders from all over the U.S. will start heading for Dayton, Ohio (it’s actually in Fairborn) for the 2013 Midwest Tandem Rally. The area between Dayton and Cincinnati are scattered with great bike trails (the Loveland Trail being one of the nicest) and Green County Ohio boasts of some really great tourist attractions to boot. Starting with the National Museum of the United States Air Force where you can see JFK’s Air Force One. Tour the National Aviation Hall of Fame or the Afro-American Museum. Greene County also has the Clifton Mill. Ohio’s old running grist mill. Plus, there are 5 festivals during the month of September in Greene County, Ohio.
The Midwest Tandem Rally starts Friday 30th of August and runs through Monday the 2nd of September. If past years are any indication there could be close to 500 tandems (not just 2 seaters) and 1000 or more riders. It’s never too late.
Happy Cycling & always wear your Helmet!
