I am a veteran of the U.S. Navy and an alum of the United States Naval Academy. There are a number of organizations doing great work in support of our veterans. I would like to digress from my normal commentary on business law and introduce the family of Examiner readers to one of those organizations, Gozump.
This Labor Day weekend, the Marines of Gozump will march 81 miles from Palm Beach to Miami to inspire Americans with the heroism of those who fought in the battle of Fallujah in 2004.
“After over a decade of war and sacrifice, Americans need to repay their debt to those who died believing they were leaving behind a greater America. The Marines of Fallujah fought and died like lions. We owe it to them to live the way they did, with purpose,” said Gozump founder Charleston Malkemus.
This sentiment is at the core of the Gozump mission and fuels their work on a daily basis. Charleston Malkemus fought in Fallujah prior to founding Gozump, and is now a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves. He has said the team came together to champion a cause they believed would uphold the ideals of their brothers in arms.
Gozump champions home buying for military families across the nation in order for them to achieve financial freedom, helping them find, finance, offer, insure, and close on their new home through one simple, streamlined platform. Malkemus has said, “The next greatest generation of America is coming home and we need to begin moving America forward in honor of the sacrifices made for us to have this opportunity.”
Gozump is an award winning start-up earning recognition from NewME Accelerator and Venture Hive. It was named a Veteran Champion by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for its commitment to hiring and servicing the U.S. Military and veterans.
The Gozump team will march for three days, spanning a distance greater than marathons, beginning at CityPlace in West Palm Beach on August 31 at 9 a.m., and concluding at the Office of the Mayor of Miami on September 2, where a flag ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Show your support for the march along its route and pass this information on through your social networks. Gozump challenges Americans to join them and start doing something of purpose. Media and participants will be able to receive updates on their progress by following Gozump on their Facebook page at facebook.com/Gozump or on Twitter at twitter.com/Gozump.
