The three day weekend starts tomorrow – what do you plan to do? If you’re staying in town rest assured, there’s a lot going on. Especially if you’re single and want to be with your friends, try something new with a date, or if you’re looking to meet new people.
Whether you’re into crowds or prefer something a little more off the beaten path, following are some events happening around town. Check them out:
Food Noir at The Taste. This is a gathering for all you foodies who don’t mind a crowd. The Taste schedule is extensive and lasts all weekend in different places, including Hollywood and Beverly Hills. But my pick for singles: go downtown Sunday September 4th to Broadway between 8pm and midnight, as Los Angeles’ most celebrated restaurants and chefs serve up ‘noir’ inspired dishes, wine and spirits. You get unlimited tastings and samples from 30 of your favorite restaurants, wineries and breweries, plus you can enjoy live music. The iconic Orpheum Theatre is screening classic Warner Bros. cartoons, vintage newsreels and trailers for legendary movies from Hitchcock, DeMille and more while you sample. Access discount tickets using the code "conservancy" - as the night benefits the L.A. Conservancy.
Outdoor Cinema Food Fest. If you haven’t tried it out yet this summer, this is a rotating event, where movie screenings happen at different parks each week. This Saturday September 3rd at Northridge Little League Field they are screening Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Enjoy a picnic with your friends or a date, with grub from participating food trucks and accompanying live music. Another outdoor movie option is The Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where they’ll be showing one of my favorites Edward Scissorhands on Saturday.
White Trash Wine Tasting. If you want to enjoy your wine with some corn nuts or Grandma’s Poke and Pour cake, then come on down to Colorado Wine Company in Eagle Rock this Saturday September 3rd from 6:30-8:30pm. This is an intimate gathering and gets you away from the crowds at the beach. Perfect for a first date! Check their website for details.
Fiesta Hermosa Beach Festival. If you’re into crowds and long days in the sun, then this is the place for you. Check out downtown Hermosa Beach all day Friday, Saturday or Sunday and enjoy food, spirits, arts and crafts as you wander among tents lining the pier and streets. There’s plenty of live music and beach strolling to do, too, so come early and enjoy.
First Friday in Venice. Not only is this a three-day weekend, but it kicks off Friday night with the monthly celebration on Abbott Kinney! Enjoy strolling into galleries and shops open until 10pm or later, live music, local bars and restaurants, and a bite from local food trucks lining the street. What's not to like?
