Labor Day 2014 closings: Are stores, banks, DMV, post office, Walmart open?

Labor Day signifies the end of summer, with many people looking forward to taking the day off on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014. As the holiday approaches, many people are searching to find out if there will be mail delivery, if banks will be open and if retail stores like Walmart and Target will be open special holiday hours.

Opinionated Nation reports that all federal offices will be closed on September 1 in observation of the holiday that falls on the first Monday of September every year. That means offices like the DMVand Social Security will not be closed for business all day. The stock market is also closed for the day.

There will be no mail delivery on Labor Day, so plan ahead if you have a package to send out. All post office locations will be closed and will re-open on Tuesday, September 2. UPS and FEDEX will also be closed with the exception of UPS Express Critical and FEDEX Custom Critical deliveries.

Walmart, Target, and most other retail stores and restaurants will be open on Labor Day. If you need cash to shop, stop by the ATM as most banks will close their doors so their employees can enjoy the day off.
