I was blown away by a charity event that I attended a couple of weeks ago. As NYFW came to a close, there were still a plethora of beauty and fashion galas that continued to take place all around the city. This Beauty with Pure Purpose event however not just showcased gorgeous fashions from emerging top designers, but there was a silent auction and vendors from different industries there to present their goods to the audience. Who doesn't love doing good when they're shopping?
Produced by Yvonne Forbes of LabellelaDiva and MNS Media and hosted by the hip hop legendary talent herself, Roxanne Shante, we were entertained and laughing all night. Not only is Roxanne Shante an incredible Emcee, but she is also a breast cancer survivor, so the cause was really close to her heart. Mama Jones also showed up to show support and promote her new book.
Gorgeous fashions, like Sonjja Baram's Summer 2014 swim line, which was fashion chic and pretty had us oohing and aahing in our seats. Dramatic hit the scene as Marco Hall's models strutted down the runway, working the hell out of his fashion forward lines. His use of drapy fabrications and color really wowed the crowd, me included. I was also moved by the plus size fashion line, Sebastian Threadz.
While sipping on a tasty pink lemonade blender, I perused the vendors and sponsors, running into ones like Fantabulash. This is the maker of an adhesive tape for false eyelash application. As a woman with extremely sensitive skin, I found it to be intriguing that this product is on the market. What makes it really worth its weight in gold though, is the story behind it all. Gina, the founder of the company suffers from Alopecia and lost all her hair during the battle. Not wanting to constantly wear uncomfortable wigs, she opted for false eyelashes to add to her beauty regimen. Unfortunately, her eyes were so sensitive to the glue that she couldn't wear them any longer and Fantabulash was born.
It was an honor not just to be part of such a fantastic display of NYFW designers at their best, but to know that I was helping to fund breast cancer research, as some proceeds went to the top rated cancer charity- Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This truly was beauty and fashion with purpose. Bravo to all that helped to execute such an amazing event!
