That was the fastest three hours of my life. For those of you living under a rock, LOST’s final season premiered Tuesday night and it blew. me. away. This column is spoiler-free, but be warned that if you have not yet scene the first episode, there are significant details here that you will want to avoid. If you’ve DVR’ed the show to watch later, STOP READING NOW. As TVOvermind said: “The other great part about watching this episode (and the rest of the season) is that everything is significant. From here on out, there is no filler.”
Again reinventing the way we follow the story, LOST no longer flashes back or forward – no need as Oceanic passengers now exist on the island and off – simultaneously. Did LOST jump the shark? Literally and figuratively. It was a Dharma shark, but a shark nonetheless. I’m not sure that means that LOST is on the decline; to me it just means that reality has to be somewhat suspended and viewers have to allow a certain amount of faith to explain the island, the black smoke, the numbers, and all others things inherent to LOST’s intricate plot.
Funniest comment seen on Twitter last night: “I’ve never seen LOST. How hard can it be to pick up on the story?”
What we now know for sure:
- Ben told the truth when he said he didn’t know what the smoke monster was.
- The Man-in-Black is the smoke monster.
- The ash around Jacob’s cabin keeps the smoke monster out.
- The submerged version of the island showed the statue completely intact, so it happened before “the war.”
- Jacob truly is dead (a new theory on that later).
- With a brief reprieve from certain death at the end of S5, Juliet’s red shirt got the best of her in S6.
- Juliet somehow knew the explosion reset things.
- Sun & Jin are finally in the same time zone. Epic reunion on the horizon!
- Charlie’s going to jail (awwww, Charlie).
- Christian Shepherd’s coffin and John Locke’s knives are missing. That’s a scary coincidence.
- The Man-in-Black wants to go home.
Things that worry me:
- Ben told the truth when he said he didn’t know what the smoke monster was.
- Hurley’s red shirt.
- The cut on Jack’s neck in the LA X scenario.
Things that I question:
- Why was Desmond on the plane, and where did he go?
- Why didn’t we see Shannon, Claire, Michael, Walt, Ana-Lucia, Eko, Libby, Emma or Zach on the plane or exiting it?
- I may have seen the tiniest glimmer of remorse in Ben’s eyes for his part in all this.
- Why wasn’t the water at the Temple clear?
- Saved at the Temple, will Sayid now be a soul-less prick like Ben? Or does he have another destiny (see My theories, below).
My theories:
- Sayid is now Jacob.
- Richard came to the island in chains as a slave on the Black Rock.
- The Man-in-Black will now use Richard as a bargaining chip at the Temple.
- If there are now two realities and two islands (one underwater, one above), then there’s a chance Juliet was never recruited by the Dharma Initiative, never traveled to the island, and may one day cross paths with LA X Sawyer and get that coffee.

Your opinion counts: What did you think of the premier of Season 6? Was anything too over the top for you, or was it necessary to answer questions and move forward?

Yes, I think Sayid is now Jacob. New Locke is the devil/evil who couldn't hurt Jacob until he invaded another body. I read that Juliette really did die so don't know if she'll be back. The "what could have happened" if they didn't crash was confusing to me.I saw Josh who plays Sawyer on TV and at the time, he had filmed 9 episodes and said it still didn't make sense yet. Man I hope it makes sense at the end.
the creators on Jimmy Kimmel or either on Doc Jennsen on EW denounced that Sayid is pocessed by Jacob, BUT, they did say you have the right idea. (I think it was Kimmel..)
the statue was NOT completely intact. it was only the foot. This is because the H-Bomb went off in 1977, when there was only a foot. We saw Claire in the taxi with Kate, who knows if she's pregnant. Shannon is still in Australia. That's what Boone said. And Sayid being Jacob is too obvious a theory that has been debunked by alot of other theorists. It's too simple. And LOST is anything but simple.
It's not been made certain whether or not 'Jughead' sunk the island. I, and many of my friends believe that the cause of this Atlantis-style sinking must be something else as Dharmaville was still intact, albeit wet. Anywhoooo, BEST EPISODE YET!!! I'm I'll be saying the same thing again next week, as I have been since season 4.
@Altair a theory going around is that the magnetic components of the Island is what made it float. The same magnetism that Desmond had to "control" every 108 minutes. With the denotation of the H-bomb, as Daniel said, it would negate the magnetism. So perhaps that is why the island is sunk, and everything intact. Don't ask me why everything is not blown to high hell. Maybe the explosion was contained within the hole with the power of the magnetic forces. I don't know. But I believe that is probably why the island is underwater. But, like I said, it's LOST. Any reason can be the reason.
