Many telenovela fans have been waiting for the official announcement as to whom would be playing opposite Latin sensation, William Levy, next month in the upcoming "La Tempestad."
For many months now, after various casting rumors, the speculation has continued. Earlier this month it was revealed that leading lady, Sandra Echeverria rejected the role due to various other work projects.
The strongest contender seemed to be fellow actress, Elizabeth Gutierrez but that possibility was ruled out by Salvador Mejía Alejandre, the producer of the novela, earlier today. Or was she? She has talent, experience and many fans of William Levy want to see him star alongside his wife and mother of his children.
Yet this morning, the producer flatly denied the possibility of Gutierrez starring in the novela and said that the contention was between the former Miss Universe, Ximena Navarrete and seasoned actress, Sylvia Navarro.
However, Sylvia Navarro had stated last month that she was not selected for the lead role but enjoyed the opportunity to audition with William Levy. On January 31st, Mr. Mejía also confirmed via Maxine Woodside's show that Navarro was not being considered for the lead role in this novela. And when pressed on December 13th via twitter on Navarro's participation, he again denied it.
So are we to believe him now?
On the other hand, Mr. Mejía has never denied that Ximena Navarrete auditioned for the lead or that she could possibly be the star of "La Tempestad". At times, it seemed that he was pushing for her inclusion into the project, despite some of his fans' negative reaction.
Ms. Navarrete represented Mexico proudly and with great dignity when she won the Miss Universe pageant in 2010. And while it is understandable that producer Salvador Mejía may be a bit awestruck by her jovial and apparent natural capabilities as an actress, that fact is she has no acting experience. For most TV fans, a pretty face is not enough. Sure everyone deserves an opportunity, however most pay their dues beforehand and are not given free-rides regardless of their pretty face. Just ask heartthrob, William Levy.
Regardless, the producer seems to be having fun with keeping his fans guessing and making them suffer as though they were watching one of his novelas. Apparently his Twitter followers' agony ends next week, when he is slated to reveal who the leading lady really is.
